Many people usually find it very hard to disclose their HIV status to anyone.
It is a subject of confidentiality and no one is allowed to reveal anybody’s status.
However, there are Kenyan celebrities who willingly let the general public know their HIV status.
Below are some of the popular Kenyan celebrities who have gone public about their HIV status.
1. Huddah Monroe ~ The controversial socialite went for a HIV test during the celebration of World Aids Day last year, you can find out how it went below.
2. Joji Baro ~ The controversial Kenyan gospel artiste is a self-confessed HIV positive who has gone through a lot in Kenya and almost everyone is against it.
3. Vera Sidika ~ She undoubtedly one of the most popular Kenyan celebrities. The provocative socialite and alleged businesswoman posted her HIV test results on social media after rumors that she was a callgirl.
4. Richard Amuok ~ Earlier on this year, veteran rapper by the name Richard Amuok who is associated with the popular Hip-Hop group Ukoo Flani, revealed the woman who infected him With HIV/AIDS.
5. Frigacy ~ The upcoming artiste is one of the first Kenyan celebrities to publicly announce that he is HIV positive.. During an interview with the Nairobian, the Mapenzi hitmaker revealed that he was hooked to drugs at age 16 while in form 2.
6. Vanessa Chettle ~ Her breakthrough came after she was accused of infecting top Kenyan celebrities with HIV/AIDS. She had to make her test public to prove that she’s negative
7. Babu Owino
The member of parliament for Embakasi East took to his social media to brag about his HIV status.
He wrote,
“Responsible Father and a loving Husband. Member of Parliament and a SERVANT of the great People of Embakasi East. HIV Weak Negative. Body meant for speed and comfort
9 Phenny Awiti
The Nairobian columnist in 2017 came out to publicly reveal she was HIV positive, leaving many in shock.
The mother of two, whose kids are HIV negative, said after publicly revealing her status, her baby daddy left her.
10 Doreen Moracha
The 27-year-old was born HIV positive. She is bold and has always documented her journey living with HIV/AIDs online.
Just like her counterpart, Phenny, Doreen uses social media to create awareness about the disease, encourage those living with the disease and teach the youths how to protect themselves.
She’s also on the forefront to fight stigma and discrimination against HIV/AIDs victims
