The addiction significantly disrupted his future. His family withdrew an opportunity for him to study law in India, fearing his drinking would worsen if he travelled abroad. He later joined Kisumu Polytechnic but was expelled after allegedly influencing fellow students to engage in excessive drinking.

Although he later found employment at Southern Credit Bank Corporation, alcoholism continued to affect his life. His declining work performance eventually cost him his job, while his dependence on alcohol strained relationships with family members. Throughout the difficult period, his wife remained his strongest source of support.
Determined to reclaim his life, Ochola sought treatment through the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse and successfully completed a rehabilitation programme. Although recovery was challenging, the unwavering support of his wife and children helped him remain sober.
Now based in Nakuru, Ochola serves as a recovery coach, guiding individuals struggling with addiction. By sharing his story openly, he hopes to inspire others to seek professional help early and understand that lasting recovery is achievable through determination, commitment, and the support of loved ones.
