The late Chief of Defence Forces, General Francis Ogolla, will have a unique burial, as revealed by his elder brother, Canon Hezekiah Oduor. According to Canon Oduor, General Ogolla’s final wishes included a simple burial without a coffin, in line with his will.
The Sunday burial ceremony will be straightforward and without elaborate arrangements, honoring General Ogolla’s desire to be laid to rest within 72 hours of his passing. He even specified the exact spot for his burial near his house in Mor village, Siaya County.
General Ogolla envisioned a burial ritual similar to Muslim practices, where he will be wrapped in sheets. This decision was made to ease the burden on his family and align with his preference for simplicity.
Despite the absence of a coffin, the family will observe other Luo rituals to honor General Ogolla’s memory. Canon Oduor extended an invitation to those who wish to mourn with the family, whether in spirit or physically, assuring that there will be enough food for all visitors.
General Ogolla’s sister, Peris Onyango, revealed that her brother was prepared for death and often spoke about his burial arrangements. Despite her attempts to dissuade him, General Ogolla remained steadfast, emphasizing the inevitability of death for soldiers like him who face danger in their line of duty.
