A cloud of fear and uncertainty hangs over a family in Pipeline Estate, Nakuru County, following the mysterious disappearance of four-year-old Mary Njeri Ng’ang’a, who vanished without a trace while playing outside her home on June 11.

What began as an ordinary day quickly turned into every parent’s worst nightmare. According to relatives, little Mary was playing near the family gate when she suddenly disappeared. Moments later, panic spread through the neighbourhood as frantic family members, neighbours, and boda boda riders launched an extensive search, combing nearby streets and estates in the hope of finding the missing child.
Despite reporting the incident to Mwariki Police Station immediately, days have passed with no sign of the young girl, leaving her family trapped in agonising uncertainty.
The case took a chilling twist when a man believed to be connected to the disappearance allegedly contacted the family and demanded ransom money. The shocking development prompted a swift response from investigators attached to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit, who joined forces with local police officers and intelligence personnel to track down the suspect.
Authorities reportedly traced the suspect to the Quarry area in Rongai, raising hopes that a breakthrough was imminent. However, in a dramatic turn of events, the man allegedly escaped before he could be arrested and has since remained at large, triggering outrage among residents and relatives.
Angered by the lack of progress, family members joined local residents in staging a protest outside Mwariki Police Station. Demonstrators demanded urgent action and questioned how a suspect who had allegedly been traced by law enforcement managed to slip through the net.
Mary’s grandmother, overwhelmed with emotion, recalled rushing to Nakuru immediately after receiving news of her granddaughter’s disappearance. While she praised community members who have tirelessly participated in search efforts, she expressed deep sorrow that the child is yet to be found.
Adding another layer of intrigue to the case, the family claims the suspect’s wife later made statements before a local chief allegedly linking her husband to the kidnapping plot. Relatives say she disclosed that her husband had previously discussed abducting a child and demanding KSh200,000 ransom as a way of escaping financial difficulties.
As investigations intensify and a manhunt continues, Mary’s family clings to hope that the four-year-old will be found safe and reunited with her loved ones. For now, the community remains united in prayer and determination, refusing to give up until answers are found and the missing child is brought home.
