A family has been plunged into devastating grief after a horrific road crash along the Mubende-Mityana Road claimed the lives of 45-year-old Kenneth Kaijuka and one of his children, while two other children were left critically injured.
The crash occurred at around 8:25 p.m. when an Actros truck reportedly lost control, crossed into the opposite lane and overturned onto a Nissan Murano carrying Kaijuka and his family.
The impact was catastrophic. The family car was crushed almost beyond recognition, trapping its occupants beneath the overturned truck.
Eyewitnesses said the truck veered across the road before crashing into the Murano. Kaijuka and his son were pronounced dead at the scene, according to reports by the Daily Monitor.
Four children were travelling in the vehicle at the time: Johana Bala, 11; Isabella Rebecca, 5; Gabriella Kawini, 12; and Dorothy, 12. While one of Kaijuka’s children died in the crash, two others sustained critical injuries and were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
Crane Brought In to Rescue Trapped Victims
The extent of the wreckage forced rescuers to mount a major operation to reach those trapped inside the vehicle.
Police confirmed that a crane was deployed alongside a joint rescue team to lift the overturned truck and free the victims pinned beneath it.
After being rescued, the four injured children were rushed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital in a police ambulance, where they received urgent medical attention.
The tragedy has left the Kaijuka family devastated, with relatives mourning the sudden loss of a father and his son. As funeral preparations begin, the family and well-wishers are also holding onto hope for the recovery of the children still fighting for their lives in hospital.
