What should have been a painful farewell to a beloved wife and mother turned into an extraordinary moment of forgiveness when the husband of slain Eldoret nurse Doris Murei Kamama addressed mourners during her burial.
Despite reports and allegations surrounding his wife’s alleged relationship with another man, the grieving husband chose not to speak with anger or bitterness. Instead, he publicly forgave her and remembered her with compassion, leaving mourners deeply moved.
Murei, a 45-year-old nurse from Eldoret, was laid to rest at her family home in Chemolingot, Tiaty, Baringo County, where relatives, friends, colleagues from the nursing profession and other mourners gathered to bid her a final goodbye.
The most emotional moment came during the requiem Mass when her husband rose to speak about the woman he had shared his life with.
With the circumstances surrounding her death still the subject of intense public discussion, he revealed that he had chosen forgiveness.
Rather than allowing allegations about her private life to define her final farewell, he spoke of Murei with love and remembered her as a caring and loyal woman.
His decision to forgive his late wife reportedly touched mourners, adding a deeply personal and emotional dimension to a burial already overshadowed by tragedy.
Murei’s death has attracted significant attention after she was reportedly shot at around 5pm on August 30, 2026, at the GSU Camp Eldoret mess compound.
According to police reports, a confrontation allegedly took place between Murei and Police Constable Nathan Kirwa before the officer reportedly fired a rifle, killing the nurse at the scene.
Investigators who visited the scene reportedly recovered seven spent 9mm cartridges, a Toyota Corolla 110 and a rifle holster believed to be linked to the suspect.
Kirwa, who was reportedly attached to the security team assigned to Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, is said to have left the scene with other individuals shortly after the shooting.
The police officer later appeared before Chief Magistrate Peter Ndwiga on September 1, 2026, as prosecutors sought additional time to complete investigations into the circumstances surrounding the nurse’s death.
Murei’s body was initially taken to Eldoret Hospital Mortuary before being released to her family for burial.
As investigations continue, questions remain over what exactly transpired in the moments leading to the fatal shooting.
For her husband, however, the burial was not about reopening wounds or passing judgment.
