A wave of grief has swept across Nandi County and beyond following the heartbreaking death of Eng. George Kibet, a celebrated scholar, accomplished engineer, and respected professional whose remarkable journey inspired many.

The devastating news has left residents of Kiptamuk Village in Kaplelmet Sub-location, Nandi Hills, as well as former students of Kapsabet Boys High School, colleagues at Safaricom, and alumni of the University of Nairobi struggling to come to terms with the loss of a man widely regarded as one of the brightest minds his community ever produced.
For those who knew him, George Kibet was more than an engineer. He was a symbol of determination, discipline, and excellence—a man who turned academic brilliance into a life dedicated to service and innovation.
His extraordinary story began at Nandi Hills Academy, where his exceptional intelligence became evident at an early age. In the 2004 KCPE examinations, he emerged among the top performers with an impressive score of 412 marks out of 500, earning admiration from teachers, classmates, and the wider community.
The achievement opened the doors to Kapsabet Boys High School, one of Kenya’s most prestigious institutions. There, Kibet continued to distinguish himself academically, attaining an A plain in KCSE and cementing his reputation as a scholar destined for greatness.
His academic journey would reach even greater heights at the University of Nairobi, where he pursued Telecommunications Engineering. Through relentless hard work and unwavering commitment, he graduated with First Class Honours and received a prestigious academic medal, an achievement reserved for only the most outstanding students.
Those who studied alongside him recall a young man whose brilliance was matched by humility. He was never one to seek attention, yet his achievements consistently placed him among the best.
After graduation, Kibet joined Safaricom, where he built a distinguished career as a telecommunications engineer. His technical expertise, innovative thinking, and dedication quickly earned him respect among colleagues and industry professionals. Many viewed him as a future leader whose contributions would continue shaping Kenya’s telecommunications sector for years to come.
Sadly, that promising future was cut short by a tragic road accident in Nairobi. The sudden loss has left family, friends, and colleagues devastated, as they mourn a man whose life was still full of dreams, ambitions, and possibilities.
Beyond his academic and professional accomplishments, George Kibet was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a compassionate friend. He leaves behind a young family and two children who will grow up carrying the legacy of a father remembered for his integrity, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Friends describe him as humble, God-fearing, approachable, and deeply caring. Despite his impressive achievements, he remained grounded and always willing to support others. His kindness, understanding, and genuine concern for people earned him admiration wherever he went.
Today, Kapsabet Boys mourns one of its finest alumni. The University of Nairobi has lost a distinguished First Class Honours medalist. Safaricom has lost a talented engineer and rising leader. Nandi Hills has lost a son who carried the hopes and pride of an entire community.
Yet even in death, George Kibet’s story remains a powerful reminder that true greatness is measured not only by achievements but also by the lives touched along the way.
Some stars shine so brightly that their light continues to illuminate the world long after they are gone. Eng. George Kibet was one such star.
Though he has departed from this world, his legacy of excellence, humility, service, and determination will continue to inspire generations of young Kenyans to dream bigger, work harder, and strive for greatness.
Rest in eternal peace, Eng. George Kibet.
A brilliant mind has gone silent, but his light will never fade.
