Popular pastor in kenya loses millions and turns broke. Here is how

What was meant to be a triumphant homecoming after years of hard work in the United States has turned into a heartbreaking tale of loss, resilience, and unwavering faith for a pastor from Kakamega County.

For Evangelist Sam Opingo, life once seemed to be falling perfectly into place. After overcoming humble beginnings and building a successful life abroad, he returned to Kenya hoping to invest in his future and expand his ministry. Instead, he found himself facing a devastating financial collapse that wiped out more than KSh 20 million and forced him to start over from scratch.

Speaking candidly about his journey, Opingo revealed that he was raised in a modest family where opportunities were limited, but his faith in God became his guiding light from an early age. Determined to serve, he founded the Christ Ambassadors Band, a gospel music group that played a major role in spreading his ministry’s message and touching lives through music.

Like many people, the COVID-19 pandemic brought immense challenges. At one point, Opingo struggled to pay rent and keep his children in school. Just when hope seemed to be fading, an unexpected act of kindness changed everything.

According to the evangelist, a man he had met gifted him $1,000, a gesture that arrived at the perfect moment. The money helped him settle urgent bills and return his children to school. Looking back, Opingo describes that moment as the beginning of a remarkable turnaround in his life.

Soon afterward, another blessing came his way. A preacher from Mombasa sponsored his journey to the United States, opening a door that would transform his fortunes. Once in America, Opingo trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant and secured employment in the healthcare industry. Through dedication and hard work, he achieved financial stability and gradually built substantial savings.

For the first time in years, he felt secure. He envisioned investing back home, supporting his family, and growing his ministry to greater heights.

But just as life appeared to be reaching its peak, tragedy struck.

Opingo received an urgent call informing him that his mother was critically ill. Without hesitation, he travelled back to Kenya to be by her side. Sadly, despite his efforts, she passed away just two weeks later, leaving him devastated.

As he mourned his mother’s death, another storm was quietly brewing.

The evangelist says he lost approximately KSh 6 million that had been entrusted to a farm manager for investment purposes. Before he could recover from that shock, he suffered another massive setback after losing sound equipment worth more than KSh 14 million, equipment that had been crucial to his ministry operations.

The combined losses exceeded KSh 20 million, effectively erasing years of hard-earned wealth accumulated while working abroad.

“I moved from being a millionaire to starting over,” Opingo lamented.

The painful reality, he says, is that many people still assume he is wealthy simply because he once lived and worked in America. Few understand the depth of the losses he has endured or the challenges he now faces as he struggles to rebuild his life.

Yet amid the heartbreak, Opingo remains determined not to give up. Leaning on the same faith that carried him through poverty, uncertainty, and success, he says he is focused on rebuilding his finances, supporting his seven children, and continuing his ministry.

His story stands as a powerful reminder that fortunes can change in an instant, but resilience, faith, and determination can help a person rise again even after losing everything. For Evangelist Sam Opingo, the road ahead may be difficult, but he believes his greatest comeback story is yet to be written.
