Missing women rep aspirant kidnapped found in bad state

Relief has swept through the political and community circles in Bungoma after Woman Representative aspirant Agnetta Mwangale, who had reportedly gone missing during the night, was found alive but injured and traumatised.

Mwangale was located on the morning of August 17, according to an update shared by Vihiga Woman Representative aspirant Amakove Wala, who described the circumstances surrounding her discovery as deeply distressing.

In a statement, Wala said Mwangale had been found in an injured and traumatised state, with a team already mobilising to move her to safety and ensure that she received urgent medical attention.

“My fellow woman rep aspirant for Bungoma, Agnetta Mwangale, has finally been located this morning, injured, traumatised. There is a team headed to take her to safety and medical care,” Wala stated.

The development comes after growing concern over Mwangale’s whereabouts following reports that she had disappeared the previous night.

According to information circulating among those searching for her, Mwangale had reportedly boarded a vehicle before she went missing. Her identification card was later found near the vehicle, raising alarm among her colleagues, friends and supporters.

An earlier appeal had urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could help establish her whereabouts.

“If you know about her whereabouts kindly notify us,” the appeal stated.

Mwangale is known as a political activist and is identified as the DAP-Kenya National Youth Leader and a contender for the Bungoma Woman Representative seat. Her disappearance therefore quickly attracted attention within political circles, with supporters anxiously waiting for news of her safety.

The latest update has brought some relief, although questions remain about what happened between the time she reportedly boarded the vehicle and when she was eventually found injured.

Mwangale has previously expressed her commitment to political leadership and learning from senior leaders as she prepares for her political journey. In one of her messages, she thanked Bungoma MP Wamunyinyi and the wider party leadership for their support, saying she was ready and willing to learn.

The incident has also reignited concerns about the safety of political aspirants and public figures, particularly during a period when political activities are becoming increasingly active.

For now, attention remains focused on Mwangale’s recovery and on establishing the circumstances that left her injured and traumatised. Her supporters and political colleagues are expected to await further details as she receives medical care and is reunited with those close to her.

The phrase “Homa Bay was hell on earth,” which appeared in messages surrounding the incident, has also added to the sense of fear and confusion, although its precise connection to Mwangale’s disappearance remains unclear.

Authorities have yet to publicly provide a detailed account of what happened to the aspirant. Any investigation will be expected to establish where she was taken, what occurred during the period she was missing and whether anyone should be held responsible.

For her family, friends and supporters, however, the most important news is that Mwangale has been found alive. The immediate priority now is ensuring her safety, providing medical attention and allowing her to recover from the traumatic ordeal.
