Residents of Kahawa Wendani in Kiambu County were left horrified after police made a gruesome discovery inside a rented apartment linked to a 26-year-old woman who had been reported missing.
The deceased, identified as Irene Kananu Maitethia, was reportedly a graduate of Kenyatta University and was working as a regional human resources officer at Henkel in Nairobi’s Industrial Area. Her disappearance had triggered a desperate search by her family, who were hoping to find her alive.
Instead, their worst fears were confirmed when police officers reportedly forced their way into her locked apartment and discovered her dismembered remains.
According to reports, some of the body parts were allegedly found inside a refrigerator, while other remains were discovered on the floor of the apartment.
The shocking discovery has sent waves of fear and grief through the neighbourhood, with residents struggling to comprehend how such a horrific incident could have happened behind the closed doors of an ordinary rented home.

“She had a bright future ahead of her, and we just want justice,” her sister, Catherine Nduta, was quoted as saying after reporting Irene missing.

Police have reportedly linked the investigation to Irene’s boyfriend, Abdulkarim Njoroge. Investigators are said to have established that Irene had recently attempted to end their relationship after allegedly discovering that Njoroge had impregnated another woman.
