3 year old poisoned to death on his way back to school

A cloud of grief has engulfed Sensi Location in Sensi Ward, Kisii County, following the heartbreaking death of a three-and-a-half-year-old boy under circumstances that have left his family searching for answers.

Little Dalton Momanyi is alleged to have been poisoned while walking home from school, a tragedy that has devastated his mother, Hyline Mokeira, who describes him as the light of her life after years of personal hardship.

According to Hyline, Dalton left school in good health like any other day. Nothing appeared unusual as he began the journey back home. However, moments after arriving at their compound, the cheerful toddler suddenly became weak, collapsed at the doorstep, and lost consciousness.

“He came home looking very weak. He just collapsed at the doorstep,” the grieving mother recalled, struggling to hold back tears.

Family members immediately rushed the child to the nearest hospital, hoping doctors could save his life. Sadly, despite frantic efforts by medical personnel, Dalton was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Hyline says the family’s pain deepened after a postmortem examination reportedly indicated that the child had been poisoned, raising disturbing questions about what may have happened during his journey from school.

For Hyline, the loss is especially painful because Dalton represented hope after years of hardship. She revealed that she was forced to return to her parents’ home while five months pregnant after her husband allegedly disappeared, leaving behind debts amounting to approximately KSh350,000.

Unable to sustain her business while repaying the loan, she started life afresh at her ancestral home, where she later gave birth to Dalton. She says the young boy became her greatest source of happiness and strength during difficult times.

Now, that joy has been shattered.

The grieving mother has also disclosed that her family has been involved in a long-running land dispute with a neighbour, a conflict she says has created tension in the area for some time. Although she suspects the dispute could be linked to her son’s death, she emphasized that only a thorough police investigation can establish the truth.

Residents of Sensi have expressed shock over the incident and are calling for a swift, transparent investigation to ensure those responsible, if any criminal act is confirmed, are brought to justice.

As detectives continue gathering evidence, Dalton’s tragic death has left the community mourning the loss of a young life cut short far too soon. His family now waits for investigators to determine exactly what happened during the short journey home that ended in an unimaginable tragedy.
