Why Ida Odinga is angry with Former Raila Bodyguard maurice Ogeta

A light-hearted yet emotional moment unfolded at the Odinga family’s Karen residence when Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Ida Odinga, playfully scolded Maurice Ogeta, the longtime bodyguard and close confidant of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga

Ogeta was among Gor Mahia players and club officials who paid a courtesy visit to the Odinga family on Monday, June 1, presenting the Kenya Premier League trophy in honour of Raila, who served as the club’s patron for many years.

The visit was filled with emotion as friends, family members, and football stakeholders gathered to celebrate Raila’s enduring legacy. One of the most touching moments came when Ogeta became overwhelmed with emotion while addressing those present. Fighting back tears, he broke down before Raila’s son, Raila Junior, stepped in to comfort him.

However, a resurfaced video from the visit has since captured another memorable moment—this time involving a playful exchange between Ida Odinga and the former bodyguard.

Dressed in a Gor Mahia jersey and preparing to sign the condolence book, Ogeta approached Ida, who was standing alongside her children, Rosemary and Raila Junior.

In an attempt to lighten the mood, Ogeta jokingly declared: “I am the third patron of Gor Mahia. There is no election in my seat.”

His remark sparked laughter from those gathered, but Ida quickly seized the opportunity to tease him.

“I thank God that Gor Mahia has finally brought you here,” she responded with a smile.

Rosemary Odinga joined in, adding: “Now we know where to find you.”

Ida then revealed the reason behind her playful criticism, noting that Ogeta had been a constant presence around Raila for years but had seemingly disappeared after his passing.

“He has always been with Baba. But since Baba died, he never came here,” Ida remarked, drawing laughter and reactions from those in attendance.

Caught off guard, Ogeta attempted to dodge the conversation by asking where he should sign the condolence book. Ida pointed him in the right direction but remained determined to make her point.

As the exchange continued, Raila Junior stepped in to rescue Ogeta from further teasing, turning to his mother and urging her to let him off the hook.

The humorous interaction provided a rare glimpse into the warmth and close-knit relationship shared between the Odinga family and those who stood by Raila throughout his political journey. Despite the playful reprimand, the moment underscored the deep bonds, memories, and emotions that continue to surround the late statesman’s legacy.
