He attended God-Ngoche Primary School before proceeding to Sosio Secondary School and later Narok High School, where he completed his secondary education. Driven by a passion for knowledge and leadership, he joined Kenyatta University, earning a Bachelor of Education (Arts) and later a Master of Education Administration.
A Humble Beginning in the Classroom
Before becoming a senior government official, Ololtuaa spent years shaping young minds in classrooms across Kenya.
His teaching career started as an untrained teacher at Olalui Secondary School. Though his role was modest, it marked the beginning of a journey that would eventually take him to the highest levels of public service.
Between 1993 and 1994, he taught at Marani Secondary School in Kisii District, where he earned a reputation as a committed educator. He later moved to Kilgoris Secondary School, serving as an assistant teacher from 1995 to 1998.
His leadership abilities soon became evident, earning him appointment as Principal of Ennosaen Secondary School in Narok County. From 1998 to 2005, he transformed the institution while gaining invaluable experience in school management and educational leadership.
Rising Through the Ranks
After years in the classroom, Ololtuaa transitioned into education administration, embarking on a steady climb through the ranks of Kenya’s education system.
He served as District Education Officer in Suba District from 2005 to 2009 before taking up a similar role in Mbita District between 2009 and 2011. He later served as District Education Officer in Bomet District, where he continued to oversee educational programs and improve learning outcomes.
His exceptional performance saw him appointed County Director of Education for Bomet County. He also served as County Transition Coordinator for Narok County under the Transition Authority and later became County Director of Education for Kajiado County.
A National Education Leader
Ololtuaa’s expertise eventually earned him appointments to some of the most influential positions in Kenya’s education sector.
He served as Regional Director of Education in four major regions—Eastern, Nairobi, Rift Valley, and Central—an achievement few education administrators can claim.
In these roles, he supervised education programs across multiple counties, overseeing curriculum implementation, school administration, quality assurance, and national examination management. He became one of the Ministry of Education’s most experienced and trusted field officers.
A Bold Leap into Politics
After dedicating nearly three decades to public service, Ololtuaa made a surprising career move.
In February 2022, while serving as Central Regional Director of Education based in Nyeri, he resigned after 28 years in government service to pursue elective politics. He sought to represent the people of Kilgoris Constituency in Parliament, bringing his vast administrative experience into the political arena.
Appointment to the National Government
Although his political ambitions did not lead him to Parliament, his leadership qualities did not go unnoticed.
Following the 2022 General Election, President William Ruto appointed him Principal Secretary for Tourism. In that role, Ololtuaa played a key part in advancing Kenya’s tourism agenda, helping position the country as a leading global destination.
He served in the ministry from September 2022 until a subsequent government reshuffle returned him to a sector he knows best—education.
