Tears as husband of woman killed by shamba boy dies on day on burial

A family in Ugunja, Siaya County, has been plunged into unimaginable grief after losing both parents within days of each other in a heartbreaking chain of events.

The tragedy began about two weeks ago when the family received a distressing call from their rural home reporting that Mama Eunice Atieno Siaji had gone missing.

Concern quickly spread among relatives after efforts to locate her within the homestead proved futile. A search was launched, but what the family eventually discovered turned their fears into horror.

Mama Eunice’s body was reportedly found buried inside the family kitchen, leaving relatives and neighbours shocked.

Preliminary investigations reportedly pointed to a shamba boy who had been helping with household chores as a prime suspect. The suspect is said to have fled the area following the incident and remained at large as efforts to trace him continued.

As the family struggled to come to terms with Mama Eunice’s death, preparations began for her burial.

But before they could lay her to rest, another devastating blow struck.

On the very morning Mama Eunice was scheduled to be buried, her husband, Mzee Paul Odwar Juma Siaji, died.

Mzee Juma had reportedly been battling illness for about seven years. Throughout that difficult period, his wife had remained by his side, caring for him and supporting him through his illness.

The family now faced the painful reality of mourning both parents almost simultaneously.

In a message shared by the family, relatives described the loss as almost impossible to comprehend.

«“Within days, we have lost both Mum and Dad.”»

The family recalled the deep bond between the couple, saying Mama Eunice had cared for her husband throughout his years of illness and remained devoted to him until her own tragic death.

Their deaths have left their children, grandchildren, relatives and friends struggling to cope with an extraordinary double loss.

With no time to process one tragedy before another struck, the family resolved to bury both parents on the same day.

Friends and relatives have rallied around the Siaji family with prayers, messages, visits and financial support as they navigate the difficult period.

Ambani described the ordeal as “too much to handle,” expressing sympathy for the bereaved family and praying that they would find strength and comfort during the painful period.

Meanwhile, investigations into Mama Eunice’s death remain ongoing, with authorities expected to provide further information as efforts continue to locate the suspect.

For the family, however, the pain is deeply personal.

They have lost a mother who stood by her husband through years of illness and a father who passed away just as the family was preparing to say goodbye to his beloved wife.

In the midst of the devastation, relatives found a small measure of comfort in the thought that the couple, who had spent years together, would now rest together.

“Mum waited for Dad. Dad has now gone to find Mum. May they rest together.”

Rest in peace, Mama Eunice Atieno Siaji.
Rest in peace, Mzee Paul Odwar Juma Siaji.

May God grant their children, grandchildren and the entire Siaji family strength, comfort and peace during this heartbreaking time. 🕊️💔
