A cloud of grief has engulfed the education fraternity in Busia County following the untimely death of respected teacher Peter Oduki, whose commitment to education, mentorship, and community service touched countless lives.

Mr. Oduki, who was serving as a teacher at Kolanya Girls National School, passed away while receiving treatment at Tophill Hospital in Eldoret after a brief illness.
According to family members, the dedicated educator had complained of feeling unwell while walking. His condition quickly worsened, prompting his admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he fought for his life for nearly five days. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he sadly succumbed, leaving behind a heartbroken family, friends, colleagues, students, and the wider Busia community.
His death has been described as a devastating blow to the teaching profession, with many remembering him as a passionate educator who dedicated his life to shaping the future of young people. Before joining Kolanya Girls National School, Mr. Oduki served with distinction at St. Augustine Kamolo Secondary School and St. Paul’s Amukura Boys High School, where he earned admiration for his professionalism, discipline, and unwavering commitment to academic excellence.
Beyond classroom teaching, Mr. Oduki played a significant role in nurturing young innovators through his service as the Assistant Secretary of the Kenya Science and Engineering Fair (KSEF) in Busia County. His efforts inspired many students to pursue scientific research and innovation, helping them unlock their full potential.
His influence extended beyond education into the church, where he faithfully served as the Chairperson of the Catholic Men’s Association (CMA) at Akoret Parish under the Catholic Diocese of Bungoma. Parish members have described him as a humble, dependable, and deeply spiritual leader who devoted his time to serving God and uplifting others.
Friends have also recalled that December 2025 marked one of the happiest moments in his life when he celebrated a colourful wedding surrounded by family and loved ones. More recently, he had achieved another career milestone after being promoted to Team Leader in the marking of KCSE Biology Paper 1, recognition of his professionalism and expertise in education.
His sudden passing has cut short a promising journey of service and leadership, leaving an irreplaceable gap in the lives of those who knew him. Tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, former students, church members, and education stakeholders, all describing him as a selfless mentor whose legacy will live on through the many lives he impacted.
As Busia County mourns one of its finest educators, prayers and messages of comfort continue to be extended to his family during this painful period.
May the Almighty grant them strength, comfort, and peace as they come to terms with this immense loss.
Rest in eternal peace, Mwalimu Peter Oduki. Your dedication, kindness, and service will never be forgotten.
