A cloud of grief hung over Subukia as family members, friends, and residents gathered to bid a painful farewell to the wife and two-year-old son of Kennedy Kamau Kabaiko, weeks after the two were allegedly killed by Kamau before he also took his own life.

The sombre burial ceremony was marked by silence, tears, and heartbreak as two small coffins were lowered into freshly dug graves, bringing an emotional chapter of a tragedy that has continued to haunt two families and the wider community.
The heartbreaking news was shared by Hon. John Ruth-Kamiri, who posted photographs from the burial on Facebook. The images showed two coffins resting side by side and the graves prepared for the final farewell. He also shared a family selfie of Kamau, his wife, and their young son—a photo that has since become a painful reminder of a family whose future was cut short.
“Deep sorrow in Subukia as the wife and son of Kennedy Kamau were laid to rest,” he wrote. “The two met their untimely deaths at the hands of Kamau in Riamute, Githunguri, before he subsequently ended his own life. Kennedy was, however, laid to rest in Githunguri last week. May they rest in peace.”
The burial came just days after Kamau himself was buried in Githunguri, where relatives and friends struggled to come to terms with the devastating events that claimed three lives in a single night.
As mourners reflected on the tragedy, many recalled the painful events that are believed to have changed Kamau’s life forever.

According to those close to him, Kamau’s emotional and mental well-being reportedly deteriorated after a horrific motorcycle accident along Thika Road in April 2024. Although he survived the crash, his brother, Kabiru, lost his life.
Friends and relatives claim Kamau was overwhelmed by grief and guilt following the accident. They said he struggled to recover emotionally and allegedly felt rejected by people around him as he battled the trauma of losing his brother.
In an effort to start afresh, Kamau had reportedly planned to seek employment abroad, hoping a new environment would help him rebuild his life. However, that dream never materialised.
Before the tragic incident, he allegedly wrote a three-page letter explaining his thoughts and later posted photographs on WhatsApp, leaving behind messages that shocked everyone who came across them after news of the deaths emerged.
What followed was an unimaginable tragedy that left a young mother and her innocent child dead before Kamau also lost his life.
As the family laid the mother and her son to rest, overwhelming sorrow filled the air, with many struggling to understand how a family once captured smiling together in photographs could meet such a heartbreaking end.
The tragedy has sparked renewed conversations about the importance of recognising emotional distress and ensuring that those facing overwhelming personal struggles receive timely support before situations escalate into irreversible loss.
The memories of the young mother and her little son will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them, even as the community mourns a tragedy that forever changed the lives of everyone connected to the family.
