A cloud of grief has descended upon the education fraternity following the untimely passing of Brother Charles Makori, affectionately known as “Mapunda.” He passed away on the morning of 24 July 2026 while undergoing treatment at Ichuni Mission Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of service, mentorship and unwavering commitment to education.
Until his passing, Brother Charles served as the Deputy Principal of Rigoko Secondary School and was a dedicated Mathematics and Physics teacher. Throughout his career, he earned the admiration of students, colleagues and the wider community through his professionalism, humility and passion for shaping young minds.
Beyond the classroom, Bro. Mapunda was a gifted mentor and an enthusiastic sports lover. As the school’s Games Teacher, he inspired countless students to pursue excellence both in academics and on the playing field. His commitment to duty was remarkable—he remained devoted to serving his students and school even during periods when illness would have justified taking time away from work.
His kindness, wisdom and willingness to guide others made him a dependable colleague, a respected leader and a cherished friend. As a family man, he exemplified love, responsibility and integrity, values that will continue to live on through those whose lives he touched.
The passing of Brother Charles is a tremendous loss to his family, Rigoko Secondary School, the teaching fraternity and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. Though he is no longer with us, his impact will continue to be felt through the many lives he transformed with his knowledge, encouragement and selfless service.
As we come to terms with this painful loss, we humbly ask everyone to keep his family, friends and colleagues in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. May they find strength, comfort and peace in the cherished memories they shared with him.
Fare thee well, Bro. Mapunda. Your race is run, your work is done, and your legacy will never be forgotten.
