Fresh details have emerged surrounding the shocking killing of Mount Kenya University (MKU) student Faith Jeptoo in Eldoret, painting a disturbing picture of the events that unfolded before the second-year student was found dead in her rented room.
Faith, also known online as Faith Cheptoo, was a second-year Bachelor of Education (Arts) student at the MKU Eldoret campus. Her promising life was cut short on Sunday morning, August 23, 2026, when she was discovered dead inside her residence in Action Estate, Eldoret.
The latest information has placed renewed focus on a man believed to have been her boyfriend and known to her.
According to accounts attributed to the family, the man is alleged to have told his father what he had done before police investigations into Faith’s death began. The circumstances surrounding the alleged confession, however, remain subject to police investigations.
Speaking to Citizen TV as Faith’s remains were removed from the Eldoret morgue, her father recounted the frightening moments when he realized something was terribly wrong.
He said he had attempted to reach his daughter by phone shortly before making the devastating discovery. When she failed to answer and the phone became unreachable, concern quickly turned into panic.
The worried father reportedly rushed to the place where Faith lived, only to find her inside the house with stab wounds.
What he encountered would become a parent’s worst nightmare.
Faith had suffered multiple injuries consistent with an attack involving a sharp weapon. Her body was found inside the rented room, which was reportedly locked from the outside with a padlock—another detail that has intensified questions surrounding the circumstances of her death.
The discovery triggered immediate police intervention. The matter was reported at Ainaptich Police Station in Moiben Sub-County, with investigators beginning efforts to reconstruct the final hours of the young student’s life.
Her body was subsequently transferred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary, where a post-mortem examination was expected to provide further information about the injuries and circumstances surrounding her death.
Faith’s killing has sent shockwaves through her family, university community and home village.
She hailed from Kimowo/Kamokoiwo village in Kapyego Ward, Marakwet East, Elgeyo Marakwet County, and was an alumna of Sambirir Girls Secondary School. Those who knew her are now mourning a young woman whose life and educational ambitions were abruptly brought to an end.
Meanwhile, investigators are reportedly pursuing a key lead involving a man identified online by the alias “Xoloo Kwarkwar,” who is said to have links to the Embobut area.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is reportedly following several leads in an effort to locate the suspect and establish his alleged connection to Faith’s killing.
