The legal fraternity in Nairobi has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of prominent advocate Rachel Wangui Ndirangu, who lost her life in a grisly road accident.
The tragic news has left colleagues, friends and clients grappling with shock following the unexpected loss of a lawyer who was actively practising in the capital.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Nairobi Branch confirmed Ndirangu’s death, describing her passing as untimely and a painful loss to the legal profession.
Ndirangu was a practising advocate at Wanjiru Kairu & Co. Advocates, where she handled various legal matters before her life was abruptly cut short.
She was also the sister of fellow advocate Loise Wanjiru Ndirangu, adding another layer of grief to a family that has lost a member of the legal profession.
In a statement conveying condolences, LSK Nairobi Branch Chair Eric Kivuya expressed sympathy to Ndirangu’s family, friends, colleagues and everyone who knew her.
Kivuya described her death as a significant loss to those who interacted with her both professionally and personally.
The Nairobi branch also extended its condolences to the team at Wanjiru Kairu & Co. Advocates and other members of the legal fraternity who worked closely with Ndirangu.
Her death has come at a difficult time for the law firm, which has been left to navigate both the emotional impact of losing a colleague and the practical challenges arising from her sudden departure.
Against this backdrop, Kivuya appealed to clients and advocates with pending matters at the firm to exercise patience and understanding as the team mourns their colleague and makes arrangements following the tragedy.
He urged clients to allow the firm and Ndirangu’s family time to grieve and attend to the necessary funeral arrangements before normal operations resume.
The announcement, however, did not provide details about the circumstances surrounding the accident that claimed Ndirangu’s life.
It also remained unclear where or when the accident occurred, as well as whether other people were involved in the crash.
Funeral arrangements had not been made public at the time of the LSK Nairobi Branch announcement.
