Pilot returns home to find all assets changed to wife name

For more than three decades, Captain Waweru Mwangi believed he was living the life he had always dreamed of. A respected Kenyan commercial pilot, he spent years flying across the world, working tirelessly to provide for the family he cherished.

Before taking to the skies, Captain Waweru had once considered becoming a Catholic priest. But love changed the course of his life, and he chose marriage instead. Together with his wife, they built what many would have admired—a family blessed with five children, property, and a school they established together.

Throughout the marriage, Captain Waweru says he never questioned his wife’s honesty. His role was simple: earn the money, send it home, and trust her to manage their investments.

“I paid all my children’s school fees and provided financially. Every project we planned, she managed well. I never doubted her,” he recalled.

That trust, however, would eventually shatter in the most unexpected way.

The Phone Call That Changed Everything

Around 2016, cracks began appearing in their marriage. Arguments became more frequent, especially whenever Captain Waweru was home between flying contracts. His wife seemed distant, but he believed the rough patch would eventually pass.

Then came one phone call that turned his entire world upside down.

While having lunch in Dagoretti, his security guard from their Kileleshwa home called to ask a strange question.

“Boss, did you send people to collect things from the house?”

Confused, Captain Waweru asked what was happening.

The guard explained that movers had arrived with a lorry and were busy loading household belongings.

Without finishing his meal, he rushed home, instructing the guard not to open the gate until he arrived.

What he found left him speechless.

Movers were carrying furniture and valuables out of the house while his own children helped with the exercise under their mother’s instructions.

When he confronted his wife, she reportedly remained completely silent.

“She just kept quiet. If I hadn’t arrived in time, they would have left me with nothing,” he said.

Divorce Papers Instead of Answers

Not long after the incident, another shock awaited him.

A man arrived at his Muthaiga residence carrying an envelope and requested his signature before handing it over.

Inside were divorce papers.

Captain Waweru says he was stunned to read allegations against him that he never imagined would come from the woman he had spent 34 years with.

With his marriage falling apart, he moved out and tried rebuilding his life through a company he had registered years earlier. Work had become irregular, and after paying school fees for his children, very little money remained for himself.

He Still Chose to Save His Son

Despite the bitter separation, Captain Waweru says he did not hesitate when his estranged wife later called with heartbreaking news.

Their son urgently needed a kidney transplant.

Without thinking twice, he donated one of his kidneys.

The life-saving act briefly rekindled hope that the family might heal. He even agreed to move into a house his wife had built, believing they could start over.

Unfortunately, the peace did not last.

A Water Pipe Sparked Another Crisis

Captain Waweru says communication between them remained strained.

What began as a disagreement over the installation of a water pipe reportedly escalated into a serious confrontation that eventually involved police.

The dispute is now before the courts.

According to Captain Waweru, his wife claims ownership of all their shared properties, including the family home and the school they established together. He further alleges that ownership documents had been transferred into her name as early as 2014 without his knowledge.

He also says his children have been led to believe that he contributed very little to the family’s success despite spending decades providing for them.

Today, the once-successful pilot says he has been left with almost nothing and is struggling to meet legal expenses as the court battle continues.

“These people have moved on and have no need for me. I am still struggling with the legal fees. I own nothing and hope to get help. I am not ashamed to say I need help, especially with the legal fees,” he said.

His story has sparked emotional reactions online, with many describing it as a heartbreaking reminder of how trust can crumble despite years of sacrifice. Others have urged couples to ensure transparency in financial matters and property ownership, saying love should never replace proper documentation when building a family’s future.
