The promising career of a newly employed female police officer has reportedly been cut short in a tragic incident that has left residents and colleagues shocked in Nairobi.

The officer, identified as Gladys Kirika, was attached to Gachui Police Post in Uthiru/Ruthimitu Ward, where she had only recently begun serving the community.
According to information reaching the public, detectives are investigating circumstances surrounding her alleged murder, with her husband, Patrick Chege Kariuki, popularly known as Chege Power, emerging as the main suspect.
Police reports indicate that Patrick allegedly killed his wife before later confessing to the incident and directing officers to the location where her body had been dumped.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged killing remain under investigation, with detectives working to piece together what happened between the couple before the tragedy.
In a dramatic turn of events, Patrick reportedly travelled to Kangemi Bridge, where he allegedly attempted to take his own life by throwing himself onto the roadway.
However, he survived the incident but suffered serious injuries, including broken legs. He was subsequently taken to hospital, where he remains under medical care as investigators continue pursuing the case.
While receiving treatment, Patrick allegedly provided police with information that helped them locate the area where Gladys’ body had been disposed of.
Investigators were reportedly led to a bushy area around Kabete in Nairobi County, where the body was allegedly dumped. The location has since become a key part of the ongoing investigation as authorities seek to establish exactly what transpired.
Gladys’ reported death has sent shockwaves through those who knew her, particularly because she was still at the beginning of her career in the National Police Service.
Residents reportedly viewed the young officer as a source of hope and security within the community. Her sudden death has therefore left many struggling to come to terms with the loss of an officer whose career was only beginning to take shape.
Detectives are now expected to reconstruct the events leading up to Thursday, September 3, examining the couple’s movements, statements from witnesses and any other evidence that could shed light on the circumstances surrounding Gladys’ death.
Authorities will also seek to establish what happened after the alleged killing, including Patrick’s movements before he arrived at Kangemi Bridge.
As investigations continue, the case has raised questions about what may have happened inside the couple’s relationship before the tragedy unfolded.
For now, Gladys Kirika’s death remains the subject of an active police investigation, while her husband continues receiving treatment under police watch.
