A mother of two from Karatina, Nyeri County, is battling to recover in hospital after she was allegedly stabbed by a woman she found living in her estranged husband’s house in a heartbreaking incident that has left her family in distress.

Identified as Miriam Wangare, the woman has recounted the frightening ordeal from her hospital bed, describing how what began as a desperate search for food money allegedly ended in violence, leaving her injured, her young children vulnerable and her future uncertain.
For several weeks, Miriam had reportedly been staying at her mother’s home with her children following her separation from her husband. Life had become increasingly difficult, and with food running low, she decided to visit the man she had children with in the hope that he would offer some financial assistance.
On the evening of the incident, at around 7pm, Miriam strapped her seven-month-old baby onto her back and walked to her estranged husband’s residence. Her mission, she said, was simple: to ask for money to buy food for the children.
However, when she knocked on the door, she was met with a shocking discovery.
Instead of her husband, an unfamiliar woman opened the door.
Miriam said she had not known that another woman was living in the house and had not received any information that her estranged husband had moved on with someone else.
“I knocked, and the door was opened. I expected to see the father of my children, but a woman opened the door. I did not know he was living with another woman, and I had not been informed,” she recounted.
Despite the unexpected encounter, Miriam said she remained determined to speak to the father of her children. She reportedly asked the woman to allow her to talk to him, assuring her that she would leave once they had spoken.
But the situation allegedly took a terrifying turn.
According to Miriam, the woman called one of the children who were inside the house and instructed the child to fetch a knife. At first, she believed the action was intended to frighten her rather than cause serious harm.
She would soon realise, she alleged, that the threat was far more dangerous than she had imagined.
“She called one of the kids who were inside the house and ordered him to get a knife. In my mind, I thought she only wanted to scare me, but I was wrong. She stabbed me, got back into the house and locked herself inside,” Miriam said.
The alleged attack left her in urgent need of medical attention. Neighbours reportedly heard the commotion and rushed to help her before arranging for her to be taken to hospital, where she remains under treatment.
As Miriam continues to recover, her ordeal has been compounded by uncertainty over her children’s welfare and the growing cost of medical care. With limited resources, she is now struggling to meet her hospital expenses while worrying about who is looking after her children during her absence.
The silence of her estranged husband has reportedly added to her emotional pain. Miriam says he has not spoken out about the incident since it occurred, leaving her to face the consequences while seeking help.
Beyond her physical injuries, the incident has raised painful questions about the circumstances that led to the confrontation and the challenges facing the young mother as she attempts to rebuild her life.
Miriam is now appealing to the relevant authorities to investigate the incident and ensure that the person allegedly responsible is held accountable in accordance with the law.
For now, her immediate concerns remain her recovery, the mounting hospital bill and the well-being of her children.
What began as a mother’s desperate attempt to secure food for her family has turned into a distressing fight for recovery, leaving Miriam hoping for justice, support and a chance to return to her children.
