Police in Mombasa are investigating a suspected family killing in Nyali after a man was taken into custody following the deaths of his wife and one of their children.
The disturbing incident reportedly occurred on Friday, September 25, 2026, amid claims of longstanding family conflicts.
According to preliminary police reports, the man allegedly attacked members of his family, resulting in the deaths of his wife and young child.
Investigators were informed that after the alleged killings, the suspect reportedly placed the child’s body inside a pit latrine.
He is further alleged to have attempted to dispose of his wife’s body in the same pit but was unable to do so because of its weight.
The tragedy took another turn when a 14-year-old child, a Grade 9 student, reportedly managed to escape from the scene despite sustaining injuries during the alleged attack.
The injured boy was later found by a Good Samaritan, who reportedly intervened and rushed him to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital. He was admitted for treatment as police began piecing together what had happened at the family home.
The suspect later walked into Nyali Police Station and presented himself to officers. He was subsequently placed in custody as detectives commenced investigations into the deaths.
Police officers visited the scene and recovered the bodies of the deceased. The remains were transported to the Coast General mortuary, where postmortem examinations are expected to be conducted as part of investigations.
The Good Samaritan who rescued the injured child also reported the matter to Nyali Police Station, where the incident was formally recorded.
Detectives are now working to establish the sequence of events leading to the alleged killings and the circumstances surrounding the reported family disputes.
The surviving child remains under medical care, while the suspect remains in police custody pending further investigations and possible court proceedings.
