Fresh details have emerged regarding the sudden and tragic death of a senior teacher from Bungoma County, a case that has left family members, colleagues, and the wider education fraternity searching for answers.

Caleb Wekesa Nasikhu, the deputy principal of St. Cecilia Misikhu Girls Secondary School in Webuye, died under mysterious circumstances after reportedly collapsing in a hotel room in the early hours of Sunday, May 24.
According to preliminary investigations, Wekesa had attended a school function before spending the evening at entertainment joints within Webuye town. Police reports indicate that he was last seen in the company of a woman whom investigators have since questioned as they seek to piece together the events leading to his death.
The woman told investigators that she first met the educator at SK Club at around 8pm, where they reportedly socialized and shared drinks with friends. Later in the night, the group moved to another entertainment venue, Thumbs Club, before Wekesa and the woman left together shortly after midnight.
The two are said to have checked into Satellite Hotel, where what began as an ordinary night soon turned tragic.
Reports indicate that at approximately 12.20am, Wekesa suddenly developed complications while inside the hotel room. Alarmed by his condition, the woman reportedly alerted hotel staff, who rushed to assist. Witnesses said the deputy principal was found in distress and foaming at the mouth.
Efforts were immediately made to save his life. He was first rushed to Calvary Hospital before being referred to Webuye Sub-County Hospital for specialized treatment. However, despite the emergency response, doctors pronounced him dead barely ten minutes after arrival.
As investigators launched inquiries into the incident, the woman was taken into custody to assist with investigations.
The news of Wekesa’s death devastated his family. His father revealed that he received the shocking call at around 4am and was stunned that the information came from his son’s estranged wife, whom he said had separated from Wekesa nearly two years earlier.
“He is my first son. I was shocked to learn of his death at 4am. The person who called us was his estranged wife. I want a thorough investigation into this incident,” the grieving father said.
He insisted that the family was unaware of any serious health condition that could have contributed to the sudden death and urged authorities to conduct a transparent investigation.
A postmortem examination later provided crucial insight into the cause of death. Medical findings indicated that Wekesa died after suffering a ruptured heart attack associated with pressure-related complications, easing some of the speculation that had surrounded the case.
His death has sent shockwaves through the education sector. Representatives from the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) joined colleagues and friends in mourning the respected educator while calling on teachers to prioritize regular medical check-ups amid increasing cases of lifestyle-related illnesses.
His wife of more than 20 years also expressed deep sorrow, describing the loss as a painful and unexpected blow to the family. She said Wekesa left behind four children who must now face life without their father.
As mourners continue to come to terms with the loss, authorities have maintained that investigations remain ongoing to establish every detail surrounding the deputy principal’s final hours.
What began as a routine evening out ended in tragedy, leaving behind a grieving family, unanswered questions, and a community mourning the sudden loss of a respected educator.
