lady finds missing husband living in streets suffering. Here is why

For years, Dina Odera and her husband, Ismael, built a life many admired. Together, they weathered storms, raised four children, and dreamed of a brighter future. But today, Dina’s life is defined by heartbreak as she watches the man who once protected and provided for his family wander the streets, unable to recognize the life he left behind.

Speaking through tears, Dina recalled how she first met Ismael when she was a young woman facing immense struggles. At a time when she felt alone and vulnerable, Ismael opened his heart and home to her.

“He helped me when I had nowhere to turn. He supported me, loved me, and eventually married me,” she said.

The couple settled into family life and were blessed with four children. Despite occasional challenges, they remained united and hopeful. However, things took a difficult turn after the birth of their last children, a set of twins. The growing family meant growing expenses, and financial pressure began weighing heavily on them.

Desperate to improve their situation, Ismael accepted a job offer from a man he knew through their local mosque. The employer needed someone to clear a large piece of land near a forest in Mombasa, work that would take several months.

Hoping to secure a better future for his wife and children, Ismael packed his bags and headed to the Coast.

What was supposed to be an opportunity soon became a nightmare.

According to Dina, her husband endured harsh living conditions and worked for months without receiving the wages he had been promised. As communication became increasingly difficult and financial problems worsened at home, Dina decided to travel to Mombasa herself and bring him back.

When he returned, she immediately sensed something was wrong.

“He wasn’t the same man who had left home. He looked weak, confused, and constantly complained of severe headaches,” she recalled.

Dina hoped that being back with family would help him recover. Instead, his condition seemed to worsen.

Then came a phone call that changed everything.

The man who had hired Ismael called and promised to send the money he owed him. Shortly afterward, Ismael left home to meet him.

When he returned, Dina says he appeared unusually cheerful, almost unnaturally so.

“He kept saying he wanted everyone to be happy,” she remembered.

That night, at around 10 p.m., Ismael suddenly insisted on going outside. He first claimed he wanted to fetch water, but Dina found the timing strange.

Trying to keep him occupied, she handed him KSh 25 and asked him to buy milk for the children instead.

Moments later, he walked out, leaving the door open behind him.

Then he disappeared.

Dina immediately reported the matter to police, hoping authorities would help locate her husband. Instead, she says some officers dismissed her concerns and suggested that he had probably left voluntarily or gone to be with another woman.

For six agonizing months, Dina searched tirelessly.

Then she finally found him.

The reunion was heartbreaking.

The man she discovered was no longer the husband she knew. Ismael was living on the streets, dressed in filthy clothes and carrying sacks filled with rubbish. He appeared mentally disturbed and disconnected from reality.

Twice, Dina tried bringing him home.

Twice, he ran away.

“He seems to prefer life on the streets. I don’t understand it,” she said painfully.

Now left to care for four children alone, Dina survives by washing clothes for other people. Some days, she struggles to provide food, let alone pay school fees.

Despite everything, she refuses to give up on her husband.

She insists that Ismael never used drugs and believes something happened to him during his time in Mombasa.

“He kept saying he could see an ocean and complained about terrible headaches. I still don’t know what happened to him,” she said.

As she fights to keep her family together, Dina continues to hope that one day the man who rescued her years ago will find his way back home.

“I need him,” she said quietly. “And our children need their father.”
