In the 1980s, Wachira took up work as a hawker at the bustling Mukuyu Market. Hawking is a job that demands both physical endurance and mental strength\u2014long hours of walking, unpredictable weather, and the constant task of persuading customers. Yet, Simon embraced it fully. Day after day, he saved every bit he could from his small earnings, driven by a vision far bigger than the job he was doing.<\/p>\n
Those savings, combined with a small loan, eventually became the seed capital for his first grocery shop. It was a simple establishment, but it represented the beginning of a dream he had long nurtured. As business grew and his confidence with it, Simon expanded into wholesale trade, establishing Maguna Andu Wholesalers. It is from this venture that the now well-known Magunas Supermarket chain was born.<\/p>\n
From a single branch in the Kwa Maji area, Magunas Supermarket steadily evolved into a retail giant, standing shoulder to shoulder with industry leaders such as Naivas and Quickmart. Shoppers were quickly drawn to the brand\u2019s promise of quality, competitive pricing, and a refreshing shopping experience.<\/p>\n
By 2016, Magunas had extended its footprint to Kitui, giving residents an alternative retail experience at a time when Naivas was the only major player in the area. The chain\u2019s other outlets in Nyeri, Meru and Nairobi were also strategically positioned, including the popular Kahawa Wendani branch located conveniently along the busy Thika Road corridor.<\/p>\n
But Wachira\u2019s vision extended far beyond retail. Recognizing a major gap in Murang\u2019a\u2019s hospitality sector\u2014despite its rich tourist potential\u2014he ventured into tourism investment. This led to the establishment of the scenic Nokras Riverine Hotel, a haven built to serve both tourists and locals seeking comfort, adventure and tranquility.<\/p>\n
Nestled along the banks of the lively River Sagana, a river famed for its exhilarating water-sport activities, the hotel offers over 60 rooms and 29 beautifully themed cottages: simba, twiga, kifaru, kiboko and riverside units.
