President William Ruto has finally weighed in on the growing political debate surrounding the “one-term versus two-term” conversation, expressing confidence that Kenya will remain peaceful, democratic, and united as the country approaches the next general election.
Speaking during the National Prayer Breakfast in Nairobi on Thursday, President Ruto assured Kenyans that his administration is committed to protecting democracy and ensuring that future elections are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
At a time when political temperatures are slowly rising across the country, the Head of State urged leaders and citizens alike to avoid divisive politics and instead focus on national development, unity, and transformation.
“We must remain committed to building one united nation,” the President emphasized, adding that Kenya’s democratic space is strong enough to accommodate different political opinions without causing instability.
Ruto said his government remains focused on delivering its development agenda and transforming the lives of ordinary Kenyans before the next election cycle begins in full.
The President also used the platform to speak passionately about the role of faith, national unity, and shared values in building successful nations. Drawing comparisons with the United States, Ruto argued that one of America’s greatest strengths lies in its strong belief in God and the unity of its people.
He pointed to the famous American motto, “In God We Trust,” saying it reflects a national identity built on faith, confidence, and collective purpose.
According to President Ruto, Kenya can also achieve greater progress if citizens embrace unity, believe in themselves, and work together toward a common national vision.
“The success of great nations is built on strong values, faith, and unity of purpose,” he noted.
The President further highlighted the close relationship between Kenya and the United States, describing it as a partnership anchored on shared democratic principles, the rule of law, economic freedom, and the pursuit of prosperity for citizens of both countries.
His remarks come at a time when political discussions around the 2027 elections are beginning to intensify, with allies and critics debating whether he will secure a second term in office.
