Two Nairobi men are nursing serious injuries after separate domestic disputes turned violent, with their girlfriends accused of stabbing them in incidents that have left police investigating what sparked the sudden outbursts.
In the first incident, a police officer attached to the General Service Unit (GSU) headquarters in Ruaraka was seriously injured after he was allegedly stabbed in the abdomen by his girlfriend during a domestic dispute.
The incident happened on Wednesday at the officer’s rented residence in Nairobi, according to police reports.
What began as a quarrel between the officer and his 30-year-old girlfriend reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation.
Police said the woman allegedly picked up a kitchen knife during the confrontation and stabbed the officer in the abdomen.
The injury was severe, with the officer reportedly suffering perforation of his intestines and requiring urgent medical attention.
His cries for help and the commotion from the residence are said to have attracted the attention of Good Samaritans, who intervened before the situation could become even more serious.
The rescuers reportedly found the injured officer and rushed him to Scion Hospital in Embakasi, where he was admitted in serious condition.
He was placed under specialised medical care as doctors worked to stabilise him.
Meanwhile, police officers who responded to the scene arrested the woman believed to be responsible for the attack.
She was taken into custody as detectives began piecing together the events leading to the violent confrontation.
Investigators suspect the incident could have been triggered by a domestic or romantic disagreement, although the exact circumstances surrounding the altercation remained under investigation.
Another relationship dispute turns violent
In a separate incident in Dagoretti, Nairobi, detectives arrested a woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend three times during an altercation in Waithaka.
The confrontation reportedly left the man with three stab wounds to his lower abdomen.
After the attack, the injured man was rushed to Philadelphia Medical Centre, where he received initial treatment.
His condition reportedly required further specialised care, prompting his transfer to Mutuini Level Five Hospital, where he was admitted for continued treatment.
The suspect did not immediately escape from the scene.
Members of the public reportedly cornered her before handing her over to police officers.
She was subsequently re-arrested and escorted to Waithaka Police Station, where she remained in custody as detectives continued investigating the incident.
Police are treating the case as a suspected attempted murder, as investigators work to establish what led to the confrontation and the events immediately preceding the stabbing.
The two incidents, occurring in different parts of Nairobi, have once again highlighted how quickly domestic disagreements can spiral into potentially fatal violence.
As investigations continue, police are expected to record statements from the victims, suspects and witnesses before determining the appropriate legal action.
