Residents of Kiandegwa Village in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, have been left in disbelief following a heartbreaking incident that claimed the life of 53-year-old Peris Njoki.

What began as a disagreement inside the family home reportedly ended in tragedy, leaving relatives and neighbours struggling to come to terms with the loss.
According to reports, Njoki allegedly lost her life following a domestic dispute involving a household radio. Her husband, Alexander Chomba, is accused of selling the radio in order to get money for alcohol, a decision that reportedly sparked tension between the couple.
Family members say Njoki questioned him after he returned home, wanting to know where the radio had gone.
Their daughter, speaking emotionally to the press, recalled the painful moments leading up to the incident.
“He came home and had taken the radio to sell. When mum asked where it had gone, he became angry and warned her not to ask questions,” she said.
According to the daughter, the argument escalated suddenly and she watched in horror as the situation turned violent.
Realising the situation had become serious, she screamed for help, attracting neighbours who rushed to the homestead.
Residents who responded reportedly confronted the man before efforts were made to take Njoki to hospital.
Sadly, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The daughter’s account has touched many people, with members of the community expressing sorrow over the devastating loss and the impact such incidents leave on families.
Neighbours described Njoki as a familiar figure in the village and said the tragedy has left many reflecting on the effects of unresolved family conflict and substance abuse.
As investigations continue, residents have called for justice and urged families facing conflict to seek peaceful ways of resolving disputes before situations escalate.
The family is now left mourning a mother whose life ended in circumstances that have shaken the entire community.
