Maranda High School Principal Prof. Edwin Namachanja has reportedly been moved from the prestigious national school to Eshikulu Secondary School in Kakamega County, in a development that has sparked widespread interest in education circles.
The unexpected change involving one of the region’s celebrated school administrators has left many questioning the circumstances surrounding his transfer, particularly given his recent recognition for outstanding leadership and school management.
Namachanja has in recent years established himself as one of the prominent school principals in the region. His leadership at Maranda High School in Siaya County earned him considerable recognition, culminating in his winning the Principal of the Year Award (POYA) for the Nyanza region.
The award placed him among the leading school administrators in the region and offered him an opportunity to represent Nyanza at the national level. Namachanja reportedly emerged the best after beating five other contenders during the regional competition.
His victory was seen as a major endorsement of his leadership abilities, with his colleagues and the wider education fraternity acknowledging his contribution to the growth and management of the institutions he has headed.
However, his reported move from Maranda to Eshikulu, a county school in Kakamega, has now raised eyebrows, with education stakeholders and former students likely to closely watch developments surrounding the transfer.
Namachanja’s journey in school administration spans several institutions and has seen him rise through the ranks of leadership.
Before taking charge of Maranda High School, he served as the Deputy Principal of Friends School Kamusinga, one of the prominent boys’ schools in Bungoma County. His administrative experience at Kamusinga later paved the way for him to take up the principalship at Malava High School in Kakamega County.
He would later return to Friends School Kamusinga, this time in a more senior capacity as the institution’s principal.
His subsequent appointment to lead Maranda High School placed him at the helm of one of Kenya’s well-known national boys’ schools. The institution has traditionally attracted students from across the country and is regarded as one of the leading academic centres in the Nyanza region.
During his tenure, Namachanja became a familiar figure within education circles, particularly because of his participation in programmes and activities aimed at improving school leadership and academic performance.
His recognition through the POYA awards further elevated his profile, making the reported transfer particularly notable.
The circumstances behind his move to Eshikulu have not been made public, and it remains unclear whether the development is part of a routine administrative reshuffle, a disciplinary measure, or another decision by the relevant education authorities.
