What was supposed to be the final stretch of her journey to becoming an engineer has ended in unimaginable tragedy.

Fresh details have emerged about Sharon Chelengat, the young woman who lost her life after she was struck by a speeding Toyota Prado while crossing the road at Duka Moja in Kericho County on Friday, July 17.
Sharon, an Electrical Engineering student at Township Vocational Training Centre, was only a few months away from achieving one of the biggest milestones of her life. According to those close to her, she had been eagerly counting down to her graduation in December, looking forward to beginning a career she had worked tirelessly to build.
Sadly, those dreams were cut short in an instant.
Witnesses said Sharon was crossing the road when a speeding Toyota Prado came hurtling towards her. Within seconds, a deafening impact shattered the calm as the vehicle struck her with tremendous force.
The collision left onlookers horrified. Despite desperate efforts by people at the scene, Sharon sustained fatal injuries and died, leaving behind a devastated family and a community struggling to come to terms with the loss.
Residents and motorists who witnessed the tragedy described it as one of the most heartbreaking accidents they had ever seen. Many said everything unfolded so quickly that there was little anyone could do to save her.

Many expressed pain that she would never wear the graduation gown she had dreamed of for years, despite being just months away from completing her course.
Her untimely death has not only robbed her loved ones of a cherished daughter, friend and classmate but has also deprived the country of a promising young professional whose skills and ambitions could have contributed to Kenya’s future.
Following the fatal accident, Sharon Chelengat’s body was moved to the Kericho Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary as investigations into the incident continue.
Her death has once again sparked concern over speeding and road safety, with many calling on motorists to exercise greater caution to prevent more lives from being lost in avoidable tragedies.
