Mystery Deepens as
Residents of Nyawekwa Village in Kisii South Sub-County woke up to shocking news after a 47-year-old man was found dead inside his home under circumstances that have left both his family and investigators searching for answers.

The deceased, identified as Richard Gesicho, was discovered lying motionless on his bed on Tuesday morning, bringing an abrupt and tragic end to what had appeared to be an ordinary night.
According to police reports, Richard had remained alone at the family home while his wife spent the night visiting her sister-in-law in the Bomwanda area. Nothing seemed unusual at the time, and neither family members nor neighbours had any reason to suspect that tragedy would strike before dawn.
At around 7 a.m., Richard’s wife returned home expecting to reunite with her husband and resume their normal routine. However, as she approached the house, she immediately noticed something that felt unusual—the front door was standing wide open.
Concerned, she walked inside and made her way to the bedroom. There, she found her husband lying flat on his back on the bed.
Thinking he was still asleep, she reportedly called out to him and attempted to wake him. Moments later, panic set in when she realized he was completely unresponsive.
Overcome with shock, she quickly sought help and alerted the authorities.
Police officers arrived at the home shortly afterward and began documenting the scene. Their preliminary assessment revealed no visible injuries on Richard’s body, and there were no obvious signs of a struggle or forced entry that would immediately point to foul play.
Investigators also noted that because Richard had spent the night alone, it remains unclear exactly when he died or what may have happened during his final hours.
The mysterious circumstances surrounding his death have left many unanswered questions. Was it a sudden medical emergency? Did he succumb to an undetected illness while asleep? Or could there be other factors that investigators have yet to uncover?
For now, detectives are keeping all possibilities open as they continue gathering evidence and interviewing people who may help piece together Richard’s final movements.
His body was later transferred to Nyangena Private Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to determine the exact cause of death. Investigators hope the medical findings will provide crucial answers for his grieving family and help establish whether the death resulted from natural causes or something more sinister.
Meanwhile, neighbours described Richard as a familiar face in the village and expressed disbelief over the sudden tragedy. Many said it is difficult to accept that someone who was alive only hours earlier could be found lifeless without any clear explanation.
As the investigation continues, Richard’s family is now left mourning a husband, relative, and friend whose life ended unexpectedly, while they anxiously await answers that only the ongoing police inquiry and post-mortem examination may provide.
