A dramatic anti-corruption operation has thrust a senior Nairobi County official into the spotlight after detectives recovered more than Sh65 million in cash during a surprise raid at his residence in Syokimau, Machakos County.

The operation, conducted by investigators from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), targeted Patrick Analo, the Nairobi County Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning. What officers allegedly discovered during the search has raised fresh questions about the accumulation of wealth by public officials and intensified scrutiny over corruption within county governments.
According to EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud, detectives recovered a staggering Sh51.3 million in Kenyan currency alongside USD 113,000 hidden within the property. The cash was reportedly found in different locations, including inside the house and in the boot of Analo’s vehicle.
The discovery stunned investigators, who were carrying out searches linked to an ongoing probe into alleged corruption and economic crimes within Nairobi County.
But the cash was only part of what detectives uncovered.
During the extensive search, investigators seized a collection of documents and assets believed to be crucial to the case. Among the items recovered were title deeds, motor vehicle logbooks, laptops, mobile phones, tablets, land sale agreements, vehicle purchase documents, county approval plans, and several other records that could help investigators trace the flow of money and property linked to the suspect.
Sources familiar with the investigations indicated that detectives spent hours combing through the residence as they gathered evidence they believe could shed light on the alleged financial dealings under scrutiny.
Following the raid, Analo was escorted to EACC headquarters in Nairobi, where he was questioned by investigators.
The commission is currently investigating allegations including abuse of office, conflict of interest, bribery, and possession of unexplained wealth. Investigators suspect that the county official may have received substantial sums of money through cash transactions and M-Pesa transfers that do not match his known sources of income.
The probe is expected to examine whether the assets associated with the official were acquired legally and whether there is evidence linking him to corrupt activities within the county government.
In a statement, the EACC said the evidence collected during the operation would significantly strengthen ongoing investigations. The commission further noted that once inquiries are completed, appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.
The high-profile raid has once again reignited public debate about corruption in government institutions and the effectiveness of measures put in place to curb the misuse of public office.
For many Kenyans, the recovery of such a large amount of cash has raised difficult questions about accountability, transparency, and the growing concern over unexplained wealth among some public servants.
The case now joins a growing list of investigations targeting senior government officials suspected of enriching themselves through unlawful means while serving in public office.
As investigators continue analysing the recovered documents and financial records, attention will remain firmly fixed on the outcome of the probe. Whether the findings lead to criminal charges or asset recovery proceedings could determine the next chapter in a case that has already captured national attention.
For now, the recovered millions remain at the centre of one of the most significant anti-corruption investigations involving Nairobi County in recent months, as authorities seek answers about the source of the fortune discovered during the dramatic dawn raid.
