A heartbroken mother is pleading for assistance after her daughter vanished under unclear circumstances while reporting to her newly assigned workstation.

Mercy Nyaboke, who was residing in the Kiamunyi area, left her home around 6.20am to report to her new workplace at a school in Nakuru after ending her contract in Kiambu due to health reasons.
For almost three weeks, the family has been living in fear and uncertainty as they search for 23-year-old Mercy Nyaboke, who disappeared shortly after beginning her new job.
Maureen Kandie, Mercy’s mother, recounted the agonizing days she has endured as she desperately seeks answers. She said the disappearance has weighed heavily on her, leaving her overwhelmed with worry and sleepless nights.
According to the family, Mercy left home in high spirits, excited about the fresh opportunity that awaited her close to where the family resides. Everything seemed normal until communication from her suddenly went silent not long after she reported to duty.
What has disturbed the family even more is that Mercy’s mobile phone remained on and reachable for two days following her disappearance, giving them hope that she was safe. But after those two days, the line was permanently switched off. Maureen revealed that the last text message Mercy sent before going quiet is one the family keeps rereading as they try to piece together what might have happened.
Her unexplained disappearance has triggered deep concern within the community. Relatives, friends, and neighbours have joined hands in sharing Mercy’s photos and information across social platforms, hoping someone might recognize her or provide a useful lead.
Online, the case has touched many Kenyans who continue to express sympathy for the devastated mother. Members of the public have urged authorities to escalate efforts in tracing missing persons, noting that similar reports involving young people have been rising in recent months.
Human rights advocates and local community groups have also added their voices, calling for improved investigative procedures and quicker responses whenever such incidents occur. Police are said to be pursuing possible leads, though no substantial breakthrough has been achieved so far.
Officers tracked her number, which was switched off in Olive Inn, Nakuru, before showing activity in Eldoret on May 5. “The tracking showed her phone was switched off in Nakuru and later became active in Eldoret. We went to Eldoret, and the DCI officers found that the last message she sent was an M-Pesa transfer to a boda boda rider through an Airtel line unknown to us,” she said.
As time passes with no clear answers, the family continues to hold onto hope that Mercy Nyaboke will return home safely. Her mother, still making emotional appeals, urges anyone with helpful information to come forward and assist in bringing her daughter back to safety.
