Marriage, also called matrimony or wedlock, is a culturally recognized union between people, called spouses, that establishes rights and obligations between them, as well as between them and their children, and between them and their in-laws.
32-year-old Lulu Jemimah finally gave in to the pressure of getting married by marrying herself. The Oxford University student stated that her parents often asked her to settle down and she decided to fulfill their wish by planning the ceremony.
A friend who works as a web designer made and printed her invites, and her friend paid to hire her dress, while her brother baked her cake. The wedding cost only 2 dollars.
“As young as 21 or 22, people start asking you when you are getting married,” she told BBC Newsday. “For me there is so much more I want to do – like study for this degree.
She says her mother has often prayed for her to find a good husband, while her father went as far as drafting a speech for her future wedding when she was only 16.
Pressure to marry comes from outside the family too and it so hard to handle sometimes
Jemimah was Pursuing a Masters in Creative Writing and was also raiding $12,000 she needed to continue her studies in the absence of a scholarship or grant
