Retired African Inland Church (AIC) Bishop Silas Yego who was a close friend and spiritual mentor of Moi said the late Mzee had instructed him to hand over the bibles to all his children as a reminder for them to love God.
Moi was a renowned AIC faithful during his childhood, political and post politics days.
“Mzee’s last wish was for all his children and grandchildren to love God. He told me to ensure all his sons and daughters were given bibles. His favourite verse was Galatians 2:20. Every time we had fellowship he referred to the verse which symbolised his salvation,” Yego said.
To immortalise Moi’s spiritual life, his family inscribed this favourite verse on his epitaph
Here is what the inscriptions on the flat tombstone read:
“In Loving Memory of His Excellency Daniel Toroitich arap Moi 2nd September 1924 to 4th February 2020. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20.”
