In 2015, Mugo Wa Wairimu bust into media headlines after doing what many considered unethical. Mugo was charged with operating an illegal clinic in Githurai. He was also accused of mishandling a woman he had allegedly sedated at Prestige Healthcare Clinic.
The trial collapsed after prosecution failed to avail the statements of witnesses in the alleged crime. He was later released for lack of evidence.
MUGO WA WAIRIMU ARRESTED AGAIN
He returned to the headlines in 2018 three years after he was charged with masquerading as a gynecologist. He relocated to kayole where he continued with his wicked ways.
In the investigative piece aired on NTV, Mugo is seen giving a diagnosis seemingly drunk. He also demands Sh800 for medicine that costs Sh40. The fake doctor also demands Sh23,000 from a woman whose daughter had an abortion under the guise of treatment for a stomachache.
Mugo wa Wairimu was arrested in Gachie, Kiambu County, after being on the run for two weeks. According to Police, the ‘fake’ doctor was using 15 SIM cards complicating the manhunt for him but was traced to cousins place.
MUGO ARRAIGNED IN COURT
Mr Mugo was arraigned in court and faced two counts of unlawfully running a pharmacy not registered by the Pharmacy and Poisons board.
The prosecution also accused him of operating a medical laboratory without registration and license from the Kenya Medical Laboratory and Technologists Board.
He pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Martha Mutuku in a Milimani court.
MUGO WAIRIMU DENIED BAIL
Wairimu was denied bail and is in police custody pending the trial and determination of his case.
The court ruled that stringent bond terms alone can neither guarantee nor safeguard the integrity of the trial process.
It was also found that bond terms cannot guarantee the process of the trial.
Mugo Wairimu case has not been determined since 2018 and is currently in police custody.
