Nasa Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga, has criticised President Uhuru Kenyatta, after he appointed Education Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang’i, as the Acting Cabinet Secretary, for the Interior and Coordination Ministry.
This is after the Interior and Coordination docket, Joseph Ole Nkaissery, passed on, Saturday morning.
Nkaissery succumbed, after he was admitted at the Karen Hospital, for medical check up.
During his address to the nation, at 10 am, from State House, President Kenyatta called for calm in the country, saying Nkaissery had left a big vacuum, especially now that the country heads to a general election.
However, Raila slammed Uhuru, saying he appointed Matiang’i, even before conveying message of condolences on the passing of Nkaissery, to the nation.
Speaking in Mombasa, accompanied by his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka, Chirau Ali Mwakwere, ODM Ag secretary general Agnes Zani and governor Ali Hassan Joho, Raila said the Nasa leadership had conveyed condolence messages formally to the late Nkaissery’s family, adding that Uhuru out to have mourned with the nation, before appointing his replacement.
He said he had no issue with Matiang’i being appointed.
He termed the death of Nkaissery as unfortunate and untimely, adding that they mourn with the country.
