Doctors’ union officials have been sentenced to one month in jail for failing to call off the ongoing doctors strike.The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union officials were sentenced at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday, February 13 by Judge Hellen Wasilwa.The 7 officials were found guilty of contempt and therefore there was no reason for review of the case.
President Uhuru Kenyatta who had offered doctors 40percent pay increase deal has responded to doctors strike urging relevant stakeholders to continue with negotiations and doctors should be realistic about their deal. He also added that nobody is above the law
” I urge relevant authorities to negotiate and end doctors strike. The doctors should be realistic about their deal. The jailing of doctors union officials is reminder that nobody is above the law.” uhuru responded
