The presidential chair is a symbol of national unity and it accompanied the head of state everywhere he goes. It is treated like royalty even when the president is not around. Many people who take the issue of the presidency seriously view the chair as sacred. It has a presidential seal that is branded into the backrest. No one sits on the chair except the president. Here are three people who have managed to sit on it.
1. Olkaria man
A brave man managed to sneak past heavy security and sat on it. His time on the throne was no more than a few seconds as police officers reacted and whisked him away. They must have gotten them completely unaware. This kind of breach of protocols did not happen during Moi’s reign
Bahati behaved unethically after taking his jokes too far by ‘unseating’ President Uhuru and resting on his seat during the Jubilee party launch in Kasarani. At one point, Bahati even had his feet on the stool reserved for the president’s refreshments. He left the president standing awkwardly on stage for a few seconds.
3. A Pupil
President Uhuru met students of Kenyan schools taking them through State House. He allowed one of the students to sit on his chair which is against the protocol. Kenyans accused him of giving preferential treatment to visiting international school pupils and not doing the same to students from local schools.
