Otieno Kajwang’ was one of Raila’s most trusted loyalists and will be best remembered for his trade mark “Bado Mapambano” slogan which became the Orange party’s de facto anthem in the 2007 General Election campaigns. He always stood by the former prime minister during rain and sunshine.
The late HomaBay Senator Otieno Kajwang passed away in 2014 after developing breathing problems at his Runda home in Nairobi in what came as shock in ODM fraternity.
According to government pathologist’s report, former Immigration minister Otieno Kajwang’ died out of heart attack due to blood clotting. The heart attack was occasioned by use of Viagra.
Family lawyer James Orengo hinted that Kajwang’, just like Tom Mboya, Robert Ouko and Argwings Kodhek, did not die a natural death.
OTIENO KAJWANG WARNING
His long political relationship with Raila Odinga notwithstanding, the former ODM hero Kajwang never hesitated warning the former Prime Minister where necessary.
Before his death, Kajwang gave a stern warning to Raila so as to save ODM party from falling apart. He warned Raila to crack the whip on rebellious MPs for the sake of party stability, the advice which Raila reportedly ignored.
According to him, Raila had chosen to engage with ‘moles’ in ODM party resulting into more drama within the party members. He as result wanted Raila to bite the bullet and disappoint some of his allies who were letting the party down. He urged the former prime minister not to pretend things were okay in the party and solve the issues.
As pressure piled on him , the extreme heat from party members put Raila between a rock and a hard place given that he did not want division among his party protocols to gain political advantage against his rivals.
Raila acknowledged there was serious problem in the ODM party and opted to use diplomacy to narrow the differences which threatened to bring down ODM party.
However the former Homabay senator died in November 2014 of heart attack and laid to rest few days later.
