There was drama at Strathmore University after gunshots, close to 5,000 students were seen running for their dear lives on Monday, November 30, 2015.There are no of unconfirmed causalities in the terror drill. This comes as tension on terror attacks is high especially in Institutions
Shocked student were seen crawling out of the windows while others had to pass through sewage as panic spread across the institution for a possible terror alert.
A senior police officer revealed that the entire exercise was a security drill exercise organised by police officers and Strathmore University.
Kenya Red Cross through their official Twitter handle, confirmed that the two ambulances have are at Strathmore University.
“A terror drill is being conducted at Strathmore University. Do not panic!. It was a mock exercise.We wanted to check on alertness of emergency services.”” Japheth Koome, the police commander told Reuters.
Strathmore University is not the only institution of higher learning to conduct such an exercise. In July, Kenyatta University and Kenya Methodist University conducted a mock exercise.
The Security drill started when a member of the security personnel, armed with a gun and dressed like an al Shabaab militant entered the university where he fired shots, shouting that he was member of the terror group.
However, Methodist University’s mock exercise was conducted unprofessional. During the security drill, Six students sustained serious injuries and are admitted at the Meru Level Five Hospital, while Seven others escaped with minor injuries in the incident.
In April 2015, armed al Shabaab militants shot dead 147 students at Garissa University. Since then, all universities across the country have beefed up security.
