Nominated MCA Zipporah Wangechi Njithi is on the spot after allegations emerged that she has squandered money meant for her cancer treatment. The MCA who has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer was to travel to India for treatment. Cancer treatment is quite an expensive affair. It took the intervention of MCAs to contribute the Sh 3 million she required.
But in a twist of events 13 MCAs have written to her demanding a refund of their contribution. They claim that Wangechi didn’t travel to India but was holed up in a Mombasa hotel.
Rugi Ward MCA, Njoroge Githaiga alleges that Wangechi used the funds to purchase two cars.
“The breakdown was very clear, she was to use Sh 1 million staying there for three months, another for treatment and the other for expenses. We later realized she was in Mombasa,” Said Mr. Githaiga.
She has been given till Monday to refund the money.
However when quizzed on the issue by reporters, an emotional Wangechi rubbished the claims.
“I felt heartbroken when I saw the letter. I did not apply to be sick especially Cancer. Do I have to die for people to believe I was sick?” She said.
“I was earning before I became an MCA. I had a car even before. I just traded it in for a new one and this happened almost six months after the surgery,” She says responding to the car allegations.
