Now, nearly half a century later, his family has finally confirmed his identity following an identification appeal that circulated widely on social media.
Patrick Mugadia, writing on behalf of the family, revealed that Zadock was his father’s brother and the elder brother of the late Ridamba Ngugii Choneka, a celebrated guitar maestro from Mahanga.
At the time Zadock disappeared, the area now known as Mungoma Location was under the South Maragoli Subdivision.
He was only 28.
By the time his family learned of his death, he was 73.
According to the family, Zadock never married and had no children. Those who knew him best during his younger years were the childhood friends and age-mates who had grown up with him in Mahanga.
For decades, however, his whereabouts remained unknown.
Then came the heartbreaking discovery.
Zadock was found dead inside his house on September 18, bringing an end to a life that had remained largely unknown to the relatives who shared his blood.
But even in death, his story did not immediately reach his family.
It was an identification appeal shared online that eventually changed everything.
The message travelled through social media, reaching people who recognised the name and began tracing his roots back to Mahanga.
After 47 years of silence, the family finally had an answer.
But it was an answer wrapped in grief.
Patrick described the moment as deeply painful for the entire family, while expressing hope that their faith would help them through the difficult period.
«“This is a very difficult and painful moment for the entire family and me. Nevertheless, we trust that, with God’s grace, all shall be well,” he wrote.»
