A week of anxiety and uncertainty has finally come to an end for the family of Kenyan nurse Ruth Jeptoo after she and her eight-month-old baby were found safe following their disappearance from Lolgorian.
Jeptoo, popularly known as Nyambura, had been missing together with her infant son for seven days, triggering an extensive search by relatives, friends and concerned members of the community.
Her disappearance left her loved ones desperately seeking answers as photographs and appeals for information were widely circulated on social media.
The search eventually led to Kabianga in Kericho County, where Jeptoo and her baby were traced after she reportedly sought refuge with a woman she knew and trusted.
According to information shared by community member Mtakatifu Burungo, Jeptoo had previously assisted the woman during childbirth at her clinic. Their previous interaction had reportedly created a bond of trust between the two women.
The circumstances surrounding Jeptoo’s disappearance have reportedly been linked to a difficult personal relationship.
It was alleged that her boyfriend had questioned whether he was the biological father of the child and had declined to accept paternity. The reported dispute is believed to have played a role in Jeptoo’s decision to leave with her son without informing those close to her of her whereabouts.
As days passed without news of the mother and child, concern grew in Lolgorian and beyond.
Family members and members of the public joined the search, sharing Jeptoo’s photographs across social media platforms, making phone calls and following every lead that could potentially help establish where she and her baby had gone.
Then came the news that everyone had been waiting for.
Jeptoo and her young son were located safely in Kabianga, bringing immense relief to relatives and hundreds of people who had followed the case.
News of their discovery was shared online by Facebook user Mutai Kiprono Stanley on Sunday, September 20. Stanley expressed gratitude to everyone who had played a role in the search, particularly those who shared Jeptoo’s photograph, circulated appeals, followed leads and made calls in an effort to locate the missing mother and child.
Jeptoo has since been reunited with her family in Eldoret, together with her eight-month-old son.
Her safe return has brought an emotional end to a tense seven days for her loved ones, who had spent the week living with uncertainty and fear.
