President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto saw their ICC cases terminated .The judges reached the decision for lack of enough evidence. Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has now blasted the ICC for letting the two free during their cases.
In an article published by the UK-based Financial Times, The Ghanaian also believes that the decision to let the two free gave them a chance to fight the cases that were facing them, effectively defeating justice. He believes ICC should have taken initiative and prevent Witnesss tampering
“The president and vice president were the ones in the dock and so they put lots of effort and resources into fighting the case,” Annan wrote.
Koffi Annan was the chief mediator after the disputed 2007 elections, reconciling then rivals former President Mwai Kibaki and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.During the skirmishes, about 1300 people died while 600,000 others were displaced.
