On Thursday, October 6, word broke out that a former presidential candidate, Peter Kenneth had been endorsed by the Asian Business Community to run for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat. The Nairobi tycoons have sent fear to Evans Kidero for allegedly supporting Peter Kenneth.
A smattering of Asian tycoons had congregated at a secret meeting at the Parklands sports club and vowed to support Kenneth in the looming election. The offer for support comes with the much-needed financial muscle to outwrestle seven other opponents who have their sights set on the lucrative Nairobi seat.
The announcement was followed by a fierce twitter war between Kenneth supporters and Kidero supporters under the hashtag #IwantPK4Nairobi. Obviously, the Twitter war was won by Kenneth – a candidate who resonates with the Kenya urban youth.
The spate of tycoons from Central Kenya are known Jubilee financiers and are said to have set a meeting with Kenneth in a bid to encourage him to run for the seat in 2017.
Kenneth’s entrance into the race will make him the sixth contestant. He will join the likes of Mike Sonko, Johnstone Sakaja, Margret Wanjiru and others in a bid to unseat the incumbent, Evans Kidero.
