HOW MUCH NEWLY EMPLOYED SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS EARN

The 2021 recruitment exercise was quite fair and transparent with more than 9,000 teachers getting a permanent and pensionable job. At the moment those teachers who secured TSC Job are just waiting for appointment letters before they report to their respective station come on September.

Normally, a newly employed secondary school teacher is enrolled in job grade C2 designated as Secondary Teacher II. It was formerly known as job group K. Teachers on these job grade are entitled to:

1. Rental house allowance of Sh 7500 to Sh16,500 depending on the category of municipality

2. Commuter allowances of sh 5000.

3. Leave allowance of sh6,000.( Applied only when one takes a leave)

4. Hardship Allowances of sh10,900

5. Basic allowance of sh 34,955.00

After all deductions have been made the teacher will pocket atleast sh 38,000per month. Some of deductions include:

According to Teachers service commission,the newly employed teacher remain on probation for a period of atleast 6 months and if his or her service is unsatisfactory then it can be extended to three years.

After three years of service these teacher is promoted to job grade C4.
