Nancy Macharia is the current Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO having taken over from Gabriel Lengoiboni who retired on June 30th, 2015 after holding the position for 11 years
This year , her term was renewed for another five years despite opposition from some NGOs. Nancy Macharia is known as a no-nonsense administrator who has led the institution with an iron fist in the past five years he has been been in the influential post.
As the chief executive, her leadership style has been characterized by confrontation with teachers’ unions and formulation of tough policies, all in efforts to streamline the teaching profession.
She is a Kenyatta University Graduate where she specialized in English/ literature.
In 2002 she pursued a Master’s degree in education at Bristol University in the UK, specializing in management of policy studies.
she started working at Kahuhia Girls’ Secondary in Murang’a, where she remained for five years until she was promoted to deputy head teacher at Kianderi Girls’ Secondary in the same county.
Later on she moved she left Kianderi Girls to work as staffing officer in TSC. He rose in the TSC ranks to become CEO in 2015.
During her tenure, she has been involved in making controversial policies which include the delocalisation of teachers and career development programme and appraisals, which resulted in bad relations with the teachers’ unions, especially the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut).
