HAVE NEVER BEEN MARRIED FOR 70 YEARS, I DON’T HAVE CHILDREN. HERE IS WHY

Singleness is no longer to be sneered at. Never marrying or taking a long-term partner is a valid choice.

Learning to be comfortable with your solitude can better prepare you for future relationships and being self-sufficient.

Singledom isn’t regarded as something to be pitied as much as it used to be. And quite right too, considering there are numerous mental and physical benefits to being on your own.

A woman, Martha Mumbai who is in her 70’s has shocked Netizens after revealing despite her age, she chose to remain single forever and does not have any children

Speaking to Monica Kagoni, the ACK reverend who is her 70s stated three reasons that pushed her into being single

The first reason was the fact that her mom got married at a very young age and witnessed her struggles after her dad was detained in 1952

After her dad returned from detention in 1961, he indulged himself in alcohol and women, something that greatly affected her momT

When my dad came back in 1961, he indulged himself in alcohol and would have multiple women. He later remarried, something that affected my mother. The deep relationship between us and him dwindled. My mom became sick and was admitted at MatharI Hospital,” added the retired reverend.

According to Mumbi, when her mom got mentally ill, she had to look after their six-month-old baby and at the same time go to school.

Mumbi revealed that after her mom left Mathari Hospital, she gave birth to other kids which made her sick every time she delivered.

“I never went to secondary school. I went to a teaching college. I became a teacher through that. You could not date while in school. It had tough rules. After school, I started taking care of my siblings as I practised teaching. I later joined St Pauls Theology School. I was given the responsibility to look after reverends’ wives and this blocked me from dating,” added Mumbi.

She met a man in 1972 who ended up shattering her dreams of getting married after he lied to her.

“Back in 1972, I dated somebody and I knew he had lied to me. I did not change and that is when I made the decision to be single,” added Mumbi.

Mumbi runs a primary school in the heart of Kajiado county after retiring from church service.

She has no children and does not wish to get married. However she doesn’t regret it.
